How does the app track the calories I burn?

The app only tracks the calories burned by the steps that are recorded by your Level frames. The calories burned are displayed on the apps main dashboard. The calculation used for the dashboard is a very good approximation of your actual calories burned while active. Calorie burn is affected by your weight, the intensity of your activity and the duration of your activity.

What will Level track?

Level tracks every step you take while wearing your Level frames. The Level app translates those steps into active time, distance and calories.

Will the glasses be replaced if they are lost, stolen, or broken?

Possibly; please contact customer support. We have a limited number of Level frames but will do the best we can to repair or replace your glasses.

Are the Level frames Waterproof?

The frames are designed to be limitedly water resistant. Avoid getting the temple with the LED wet. Dry your glasses off with a soft cloth if they get wet, paying careful attention to the charging port. Allow the frames to completely dry before attempting to charge.

How do I clean Level and/or the charging port?

The lenses and frames should be cleaned with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol, drying well with a soft cloth. However, avoid placing excessive amounts of rubbing alcohol on the temple with the LED. Allow the glasses to completely dry before attempting to charge.

How often does the frame sync with the app?

Your Level frames are continuously syncing in the background. If you are having trouble, check that your Bluetooth and internet connections are working. If you are still have trouble, restart your phone. If none of these tips work, call our support team.

Does the app require internet connection?

Many of the features are internet enabled and a connection is required to log into the app. However an internet connection is not required to sync your glasses with the app.

Do I always need to have my phone with me?

No. Your data will be stored in your Level frames until you are able to sync with your phone.

Will replacement batteries be available if the battery stops holding a charge?

No

What is the lifecycle of the battery? How often does the battery need to be charged?

Although battery life depends on use, a full charge should last you the entire day. It is recommended that you charge the device nightly so you never miss a step.

What should I do if my battery isn’t charging?

Make sure the charging cable is plugged into an active source and that good contact is made between the magnetic connector and the glasses. If you still do not see the LED light up, contact customer support.

How do I maximize Level’s battery life?

The device is designed to maximize battery life.

How do I charge my Level frames?

Close the arms of the frame to reveal the charging port on the inside hinge on the left-wearing side. Plug the USB charging cable into an active source and connect the magnetic connector into the revealed charging port. Once charging, the LED should blink. When the light remains solid, it is fully charged.

How do I update the firmware on my Level device?

The firmware update can be found in the “My Glasses” section of the app should they become available.

How do I turn my Level frames on/off?

You do not need to turn Level on or off. Level remains on all the time to measure your activity.

Are there any visual indicators on my Level frames? If so, what will they be?

There is one LED visual indicator near the front-inside of the temple. The LED will be off during normal use. During charging it will flash purple and become solid purple when fully charged. While updating the firmware it will be solid white. When you are setting up your account in the Level app and/or when the Level glasses are syncing with the app for the first time, the LED will flash a series of color patterns.

How do I restart Level?

You cannot restart your Level glasses. To restart the Level app, make sure you close the app in the background. Then click on the Level app icon and it will restart.

What if I forgot my password?

To reset your password click the “forgot password button” on the login screen. You will be asked to enter the email connected to your Level account. When you receive the confirmation email, click on the link to reset your password.

How often will I receive notifications?

Depending on how active you are, you could receive up to 3 notifications a day from the Coach. You can receive additional notifications from friend activity if enabled.

Can I turn the Coach off?

No, as part of the study you cannot turn off the Coach. However you can turn off social notifications.

Can I export Level data to my Mac/PC?

No.

Can I manually delete any of the data?

No.

Can I change the language of the Level app?

No, the app will only be available in English.

How do I access different screens within the Level app?

From the app menu or the navigation bar at the bottom of the main screens.

Will there be a web interface available to view the data?

Information will only be available in the companion app.

Can I modify the information on the Level app dashboard?

No.

Can I reset to default settings within the Level app?

No.

If there’s no Internet, does Level continue to record my activities?

Yes, the device can store several days’ worth of activity and will sync with the app.

What do I do if my Level frames are not syncing data with the Level app?

Close the app (including closing the app in the background). You may also want to disconnect your Level frames and reconnect them by turning your phone’s Bluetooth off and on in your phone settings. Then click on the Level icon to relaunch your Level app. Wait a few minutes for your phone and Level frames to reconnect and sync. If the problem doesn’t resolve, please contact our support team.

Am I able to choose how frequently the data syncs to the Level app?

No, the glasses sync periodically when the app is active.

How do I download the Level app?

The Level app is not available in Google Play or Apple’s app store.

If you have an android smartphone, you can download the Level app from Beta Crashlytics. You would have received an email invitation to install Beta prior to Aug 27th. Once Beta is installed on your android, click on the Beta app icon and download/install the most current version of the Level app.

If you have an iOS smartphone, you can download the Level app from Testflight. You would have received an email invitation to install Testflight prior to Aug 27th. Once Testflight is installed on your ios, click on the Testflight app icon and download/install the Level app.

How do I change my goals?

You are able to adjust your goal from the profile page.

How do I connect my Glasses?

As the LED on the inside of the left arm of your glasses lights up, tap the corresponding color on the app. There will be a 2 second pause between your color selection and the next color in the sequence. The process will repeat until you have input a 4 segment code. If you select the wrong color, the process will start over after a brief pause.

What if my Level device feels hot to the touch?

Stop using them and contact our support team. Even during charging your Level frames should not get warm.

How accurate is Level?

Level tracks steps at above 95% accuracy.

What is the danger of having a Bluetooth device so close to my head?

None. According to FDA research, there exists no evidence that links health problems to exposure to prolonged radio frequency fields from those produced by cell phones, wifi, etc.

Will Level ever sell my data?

No. We will never sell your data. However, it will be used in an academic study as de-identified and aggregated data.

Can Level share data with 3rd party health/fitness apps (e.g. Apple Health, Google Fit, etc.)?

No.

Will the Bluetooth connection with Level impact or be impacted by Bluetooth connections with other devices (e.g. smart watches, wireless speakers/headphones, etc.)?

No.

Can I sync the data to multiple smartphones/devices?

You can connect your glasses to different smartphones should you lose or break your phone, but they will only bond and connect with one device at a time. Connecting to your glasses with another smartphone will require you to go through the color code authentication sequence.

How do I resolve a syncing error?

Try to disconnect your frame and reconnect it by turning Bluetooth off and on in your phone settings.

Will Level begin collecting data for the next day at 12:00am?

Yes, the next day’s data starts at midnight Pacific time.

Is my data contained within Level or the Level app secure?

Yes – All sensitive information is stored and transmitted according to HIPAA regulations.

Is the Level app able to display real-time data from the Level device?

Information will be available in near real-time.

Am I able to connect with and share data with other pilot participants via the Level app?

Yes, friends and social groups will be available to join and connect with during the pilot.

How do I update the Level hardware?

No hardware updates are planned. Firmware updates, if necessary, will be pushed via the app.

How do I update the Level app/software?

Software updates, if necessary, will be pushed via the Level app. We anticipate sending an app update once-a-month during the academic study.
